Chuba! Star Wars: Galactic Racer’s release date has been accidentally revealed early

We all make mistakes sometimes, which is exactly what someone did today on the Steam page for Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Video games’ own eye in the sky Wario64 shared word of said mistake, which is that the release date for the game was accidentally shared wholesale, alongside some details of a fancier edition of the racing game.

And the aforementioned date? October 26th, 2026, pretty much exactly six months away. The date itself was seemingly spoiled by the publication of details regarding a pre-order bonus and the game’s deluxe edition. For the bonus, you just get a livery for all of your speeders, nothing fancy. The deluxe edition doesn’t come with much more to be honest; three “exclusive” repulsocraft and deluxe livery, a digital art book, and a player banner. Nothing to write home about really.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was first announced during last year’s Geoff Keighley’s Night of 1000 Embarrassments (And A Few Trailers), winning over Mark quite quickly. It is pretty much exactly what you’d expect from the title: a racing game, but Star Wars, though as Mark previously noted, there are some MotorStorm vibes about it too that do look quite appealing. It’s even got that jackass Sebulba in it! I hate that guy!

Back in February, creative director Kieran Crimmins spoke of the difficulty of innovating within the racing genre, saying that it “used to be a very, very innovative genre, but it’s hard to push innovation in a space where your cognitive load is fairly small because you’re in a kind of dynamic system of where you’re moving around.” Admittedly what’s been shown off of it so far does just look like a classic lap-based racing game. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, and I imagine this will be exactly what a number of people are after. Now comes the question of whether it’s any good! I suppose we’ll find out October 26th.
