Back in 2024, I wrote about a group of Baldur’s Gate 3 modders who were dead set on giving Wyll the same level of depth and attention Larian’s RPG dotes on the likes of Shadowheart and Astarion. They dubbed their efforts the “Wyll Cinematic Universe”, and kicked off by adding a new romance scene for the Blade of Frontiers to the game’s third act. Now, their work looks to have culminated in a substantial revamp of Wyll’s companion quest surrounding his pact with evil demon lady Mizora, giving him more agency to make his own decisions as to whether he breaks it.
“This mod is for the many, many people, including myself, who wished Wyll had a more active role in his own story,” modder Magnetuning wrote in description of their work dubbed ‘If Fate Chose Differently – Wyll Pact Points Overhaul‘. “I’ve been promising this forever, and it ended up taking like, a year of on and off work to make. Looking back on what all went into it, that’s not really a surprise! So, enjoy, and give Wyll the autonomy he deserves!”
Armed with the ability to create new dialogue lines by remixing existing ones from the base game, they’ve added in more than 60 new lines throughout BG3’s second and third acts which’ll allow you to play your role in influencing how Wyll’s tale plays out. However, the modder insists that this revamp of the story, which also adds in an approval point system for Wyll similar to those of other companions, gives the character himself more power in deciding whether or not to eventually break his pact with Mizora.
The result, in theory, is an arc which feels a lot more in-depth and satisfying than the base game version, as the companion quests of Wyll’s more prominent brethren do. The mod’s specifically designed for companion Wyll, and so doesn’t make any changes to playing him directly as an origin character.
For the full Wyll Cinematic Universe experience, you’ll need to install it, the new romance scene I mentioned earlier, and two other works Magnetuning has put out in the interim. One adds a journal written by Wyll’s mum to his inventory, while the other restores some flirty party banter between Wyll, Lae’zel, and Shadowheart that Larian cut via BG3’s fourth patch in late 2023.
All of those in hand, you should be in for the ultimate Wyllsperience. Installation instructions are in the mod’s description, with Magnetuning reccomending the use of the Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Manager by LaughingLeader.
