As if catching the same briny breeze as early access darling Windrose, unannounced but blatantly obvious Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, and, uh, Soulframe, there’s yet more pirates coming in yet more pirate games. Publishers Hooded Horse have announced Corsair Cove, an island citybuilder and freebooter colony management sim in the works at Tropico 6 and Park Beyond devs Limbic Entertainment.
Hoving into view sometime in 2026, Corsair Cove will have you hammering up a simple shanty town into a bustling pirate kingdom, while sending out ships in search of booty and/or to fight those narcs, the Crown. There’s an unusually vertical focus on the building aspect, visible in the trailer below, where structures can be stacked atop cliff faces and joined by rickety bridges. Edwin noted its “authentically Tortugaish architecture,” raising the question of how he’d know. He does have pretty windswept hair, now that I think about it.
Maintaining supply lines through your island hideaway will be crucial, as will attracting new eyepatched residents, while keeping their needs met well enough to avoid a mutiny. It won’t all be about pure grog-istics optimisations, though – you’ll be free to develop your society along four “compass points”, namely Notoriety, Empire, Seafaring, and Wealth, with development into each prong unlocking new buildings, ships, and missions.
“Limbic Entertainment is a great studio with a long history of creating fun and innovative city-building games,” Hooded Horse CEO Tim Bender said in a press release. “We’re honoured to serve as publisher for their next title.”
“As a studio deeply focused on strategy and city-building experiences, partnering with Hooded Horse was the obvious choice,” added Limbic Entertainment CEO Lionel Lovisa. “They have become a leading force in this space, driven by a strong commitment to quality and to the players who define the genre. We share that same ambition and passion, which makes this collaboration both natural and truly exciting for us.”
Edwin’s release date-squawking parrot – seriously, I am starting to wonder – doesn’t have anything to say about Corsair Cove, beyond it launching this year, though it will be out simultaneously on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Game Pass.
