Resident Evil Requiem’s photo mode is now here, as part of a patch ordering Leon and Grace to pull more emotive faces

Snap. Up until now, that’s been the sort of sound you only hear in Resident Evil Requiem when a spooky monster may or may not be sneaking up on you. Thanks to a new patch from Capcom, though, it could now also signify that you’ve just taken a cute photo of the spooky monster about to ruin Grace or Leon’s day.

Yep, Resi’s latest patch is headlined by the addition of a photo mode, so you can more easily show off ten thousand angles of a heart-pounding chase involving a spider shaped like a certain steam train. To take some snaps, simply head into the new mode via the pause menu. Remember to spend half an hour dicking about with the focus.

After all, some of Requiem’s characters are now pulling more emotive faces just for you. “Character expressions in some cutscenes have been adjusted to better convey emotion,” Capcom wrote, refusing to elaborate as to which characters or scenes this affects. Time to go through the entire thing checking for extra tears or mouths that’re a few millimeters more agape.

Aside from that, it’s just bug and crash fixes, with some of the former targeting issues which “occurred with some GPU drivers”. One of the bugs swatted could also lock you out of making further progress through the game, so it’s good that’s gone. Finally, typos in some languages – I assume ones in menu, interfaces or subtitle text – have been corrected.

If you’ve been waiting for a photo mode to convince you Resi Requiem’s worth trying – sounds weird but I bet it applies to at least one person out there – check out our Resident Evil Requiem review. “Grace’s elongated bouts of slow-paced stealth while hoarding ammo, evading ghouls and hiding from ceiling-dwelling abominations were like teetering on a precarious sheet of glass that I always just managed to scarper across,” our Callum wrote in it. “Leon’s brief symphonies of gory carnage were like taking a hammer to that glass. They complement each other so well. When Leon starts to dominate the game, there’s still fun to be had in spite of the dragging plot, but trudging through the darkest depths of Rhodes Hill is worth the price of admission alone.”

Sure, Callum. But how many ideal opportunities to take cute snaps for the family album does it offer?
