The Ugreen Nexode Retractable is our most favouritest Steam Deck power bank, as James decreed with his testing, and by spending his hard-earned money on it – and if it’s good enough to earn a top recommendation here, then it’s worth you giving it a look over. £52 is a good price for this unit from Amazon, and a price it strangely wasn’t during Amazon’s Spring Sale last week.
In the USA, it’s $80 – a 20% reduction on its $100 MSRP. It has sat at this price for the last couple of weeks, and has gone for less in the past, but it’s still a reasonable deal.
The big bonus with this Ugreen power bank is the retractable 60cm USB-C cable, which means you can pull it out to plug into your Steam Deck, and then fling the power bank to a neighbouring seat or leave in your pocket while sat on a plane, train, or even in an automobile. Once you’re charged up, the cable coils back down and clips back into the unit magnetically to keep everything in place – very tidy.
You also get a mahoosive 20,000mAh capacity, enough for a couple of full Steam Deck recharges without falling afoul of airliner carry-on limits. There’s a full size USB-A port you can use for charging other devices, like a headset or your phone, while still giving the handheld priority in the higher wattage USB-C port.
Charging speed tops out at 165W, enough for fast charging even some very beefy laptops, though that’s more of a side-bonus; it won’t charge a Steam Deck quicker for it, as the Deck will only charge at a 45W maximum.
I can testify to using a similar Ugreen power bank over the last year or so (mine’s a 130W option without a retractable cable – sob), and it’s been very useful for everything from numerous work trips to London by train to a big transatlantic flight to Florida. I’ve used it to charge my MacBook Pro when in use on the Eurostar, and there’s been room to spare. Plus, if I’ve been caught short with my phone going out of juice, I can be confident that there is enough room in the power bank to manage if it’s only a quick top-up that my laptop needs.
If you’ve been after a huge power bank for all your charging needs, this 20,000mAh Ugreen Nexode choice is a good one for £52/$80 from Amazon.
