Playground Games have taken to the socials to reiterate that their Fable reboot is still currently set to arrive in autumn 2026, while a report claming that it could slip beyond that point buzzes around.
The report in question came from Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, who claimed Microsoft are concerned about releasing the game too close to all-consuming behemoth GTA 6, which is set to hit consoles on November 19th following multiple delays.
“I’ll say that I’ve heard that Fable has been pushed internally,” Grubb asserted. “That doesn’t mean that it’s coming out next year. Apparently, they’re still trying to get it out this year, but they are worried about the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. And so if it’s getting delayed beyond the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, that could push it into December, which might make it a prime candidate to get delayed into 2027. So, while Xbox will have a lot of games coming out this year, that’s one that there’s still a big question mark around.”
For what it’s worth, the person or people with the keys to the official Fable socials aren’t budging. “Excited to welcome you back to Albion in Autumn 2026” they’ve replied this morning to three separate people declaring how hyped up they are to play Fable. Though, it’s worth noting that citing the window is a pretty regular thing the Fable account does when responding to hype posts – see this one from midway through last week on April 8th and this one from April 2nd.
So, the account tweeting about autumn 2026 is nothing new, but it does seem potentially noteworthy that the report garnering some attention hasn’t coincided with Playground’s socials retreating back solely to the responses they often put out expressing the same sentiment about looking forward to the game, but without citing the time it’s coming. On the other hand, it would make sense for the account to stick to the previously announced date right up until any delay is actually revealed to the public.
Meanwhile, in the event GTA does end up getting substantially pushed back again – likely putting its eventual PC release somewhere around 4027 – it’d make sense for Playground to use that extra wiggle room to push Fable back too, assuming they feel it needs extra time and can still avoid being right in the Rockstar blast zone. For now, though, the account’s tapping the Autumn 2026 sign.
