Hytale’s first major update adds in dinosaurs, stops skeletons drowning and lets you have an early night

A first major update for Minecrafty block-build-and-basher Hytale arrived over the weekend, and it’s added in some extra danger. There are now dinosaurs running around in the underground jungles. These are work-in-progress dinos, so who knows what might happen if you end up earning their big lizard ire. Also, the in-game bedtime’s now half past seven.

These things and more can be found in the update’s beefy notes. The dinos and other NPCs which now roam the underground jungles use “placeholder behavious” for the moment, and you’ll need to generate some new unexplored areas in the biome in order to have them pop up.

Outside of that, some inhabitants of Hytale’s blockverse have had knockback resistance added to them, the likes of foxes have been made less gung-ho about attacking folks, and fire-themed characters can’t take fire damage. “Skeletons should no longer take drowning damage,” developers Hypixel add, seemingly hedging their bets in case bony bathing continues to prove fatal on occasion. Kweebecs and Trorks have also had a couple of tweaks made to them.

Outside of those, a few extra options have been added to the character creator, while the audio/visuals attached to hitting and breaking various materials have been made a bit more crunchy. “You can now sleep starting at 7:30 PM” reads another noteworthy note, with Hytale’s previous earliest bedtime having been 9:00PM.

As you’d imagine, the update’s also heavy on key bug fixes and crash abatement, plus less glamourous quality-of-life tweaks like ensuring weapon attacks check for line of sight. Hytale being like Minecraft, you can of course also turn to mods for minor tweaks which eliminate any remaining annoyances official updates have yet to deliver. Or, you know, if you think the game needs several different variants of poo.

If you’re still yet to give Hytale a go, we’ve got handy guides to the likes of setting up a server, getting it running on the Steam Deck, and hunting down key materials.
