The Alters update! Get your The Alters update! Fresh, hot and ready to download, it’s got some quality of life bits, some new features and base things like a “gamer’s den”, distressingly, a photo mode, and a number of other things. And now, for your pleasure, I will relay unto you in detail what these things are.
So, for starters there’s a new relax mode. This isn’t as fancy or in depth as it sounds, it’s basically just an easier difficulty mode so you can get through the story without worrying about screwing anything up. A new save system has been introduced, which allows automatic saving upon exiting the game, alongside “crucial story moments.”
There’s also a whole entire card game found in the gamer’s den, a new base section. Really can’t tell you much about this one, it just appears briefly in the trailer for the update, so you’ll have to venture in to figure out the rules for yourself. For those after some more narrative, there’s a new sidestory where you have to solve a Noir-themed storyline specifically set in the gamer’s den.
The photo mode looks like pretty much every other photo mode in the world, there’s lots of filters, you can put the many Jans in different goofy poses, you know what this is already. Base customisation now allows you to change the skins of the various modules, all of which look quite ugly in the trailer to be honest. Lastly, you’ll find a selection of new spacesuits so you can head out and explore “in style.”
What is probably worth noting is that developer 11 bit studios did use generative AI “in a very limited manner,” so they say, in The Alters, in case you put the game down for this reason but couldn’t remember why.
