Promise Mascot Agency update adds Tony Hawk-level truck rail grinding I didn’t know I needed, and new difficulty modes

Promise Mascot Agency, Kaizen Game Works’ thing about running a business that revolves around costumed weirdos, fairly intense menu shuffling and a lot of driving around, has gotten a free update that adds in a host of new features. The ability to grind along rails like Michi’s truck’s a skateboard, for instance.

Sure, you can already unlock the ability to fly said truck around the spooky Japanese countryside, but come on, if there’s something every management game needs, it’s tricks from the X Games.

This and a host of other additions are detailed in some patch notes you can probably have yelled at you by someone dressed as a giant finger if that helps it feel a bit more within the spirit of the game. The rail grinding comes via an extra truck upgrade that allows you to press the interact button to grind on metal fences or train tracks if you jump at them. Can you skate an uninterrupted lap of Kaso-Machi without touching the ground? They don’t say, but I reckon I might give it a go.

The update also adds in new difficulty modes that allow you to change how quickly the danger meter attached to Matriarch Shimazu, protagonist Michi’s Yakuza boss, goes up. One of the issues me and others highlighted with the release version was just how bombarded you could feel with tasks in quick succession when earning enough money to keep the meter at bay is still a tough ask early on on the game. So, here’s hoping these modes will help offer a more relaxing time for those who aren’t content to grind through at breakneck pace.

The new time trials the update adds also come with difficulty options, and there are ten of them to complete to earn new mascot hero cards. These new cards include collabs with games like Unbeatable, Sorry We’re Closed, Dunk Dunk, and Kaizen’s previous work Paradise Killer. I can’t imagine that’s an addition that’ll excite you if, like our Nic, you found that Promise Mascot Agency’s relentless busywork put a damper on the wacky goodness, but they’re an optional task if you fancy more to do.

Speaking of bits of the game that sucked a bit of life out of it, I’m very glad to notice that top of the bug fix list is a tweak that speeds up the crane machines you use to prepare mascot merch for delivery. Previously, this was a task you had to do regularly, as merch is one of the best ways to make bank quickly, but was agonisingly slow, with the crane taking its merry time to pick up each shipment of egg-guy t-shirts or matcha roll cat body pillows.

Oh, and there are a bunch of mini-marts around the map you can now stop off and buy stuff at, which is cool. Promise Mascot Agency’s Prepare to Grind update is out now for free on all platforms.
