Every day this season, our team will share who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. We’re calling it the “Dinger of the Day”. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Juan Soto – “Soto posted an 0-4 last night, but prior to that has been swinging a pretty hot bat, including three long balls over his last five games. Despite only having seven long balls on the year, Soto ranks in the top 5-10% in Avg Exit Velo, Max Exit Velo, and HardHit% – white also sitting in the top 1% of xwOBA and xBA. Vince Velasquez falls on the opposite side of this coin, ranking in the bottom 5% in Avg Exit Velo and bottom 7% in HardHit%. While Soto hasn’t been barrelling a ton of balls, he has success against fastballs, and Velasquez throws his 4-seamer as his primary pitch 50% of the time. Velasquez has allowed nine long balls in just 39 innings.”
Zach: Avisail Garcia – “The Brewers lineup against Caleb Smith tomorrow who has actually had a pretty strong season to this point. However, Avisail Garcia is fresh off a month of May in which he hit .291, slugged .570, and hit seven home runs for the Brewers. Garcia currently has the highest Barrel% of his career and is mashing fastballs at a .711 slugging percentage. 10 of Garcia’s home runs have come against fastballs and Caleb Smith is throwing his 47% of the time. The Brewers have the most home runs in the MLB over the last ten games and Garcia is the club leader.”
Jared: Vladimir Guerrero Jr – “Luis Garcia is really breaking out nicely for the Astros, but he remains susceptible to the long ball and faces the league leader in HRs today in a hitter’s park. With a slate-high 49% fly ball rate this year and facing a Toronto club that is one of the toughest in the league vs RHP, it’s not a bad time to choose the stud bat against the SP (even though he’s a pretty talented one himself). He leads the league in wOBA (.462; 199 wRC+), his 94.7 mph EV and 15% barrel% are elite this year, and his .333 ISO is second to only Ohtani in 2021. Given he crushes LHP and RHP alike, he’s a great candidate for a long ball once again on Sunday.”
