After a few weeks in which the top ten of our Xbox Gameplay Chart have refused to budge, it looks as though there’s a bit more movement this week. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare still reigns supreme at no. 1, thanks in part to its frequent updates — including the recent addition of a sniper rifles and shotguns only mode. Just below, Grand Theft Auto V has booted Fortnite down a peg to no. 3, whilst Rocket League and Apex Legends have switched places at no. 6 and 7. There’s much more movement and shuffling lower down the charts, with new entrances and reappearances of older titles, including the re-entry of Fallout 76 following the release of the game’s massive Wastelanders expansion.

The start of Operation 3: Gridiron, which added in 32 new achievements, helped Gears 5 to make a massive leap up the chart following its release a few weeks ago. Yet that boost doesn’t appear to have lasted too long; Gears 5 seems to already be falling back down, having dropped from no. 15 to no. 18 this week.
Fallout 76 has reentered the chart at a very respectable no. 19. This is most likely a result of the huge Wastelanders update, which, apart from including a lot of other new content, as well as new achievements, also added in something the player base had long been asking for: NPCs. These NPCs are split into factions, and Wastelanders adds in a reputation system to deal with them. The Wastelanders update has been out for almost a week already, so it’ll be interesting to see how Fallout 76 fares in our Xbox Gameplay Chart during the next few weeks.
Doom Eternal has dropped a few places, falling from no. 31 to no. 36. In contrast, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has risen from no. 38 to no. 37. Odyssey is the only single-player title to have fared so well on our charts: it lasted far longer than most single-player games, and continues to reappear just as you think it might have dropped off for good. This time, it’s most likely due to the return of daily epic encounters. Running until May 11th, these encounters reward players with far more XP, drachmae and Orichalcum than usual. Since players can usually earn 40 Orichalcum a week, these daily encounters, which offer 15 Orichalcum per Epic Mercenary or Ship, offer the chance to earn 105 Orichalcum a week instead.
Aside from Fallout 76, the other re-entry this week is Monster Hunter: World, which falls into place just below Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, at no. 38. This week’s new entry is Monopoly Plus, which was recently at a massive 70% discount in the latest Xbox sales. These new entries mean the departure of several other titles. Disappearing from the chart this week are Resident Evil 3, which released just a few weeks ago, Project Cars 2, and NieR: Automata Become as Gods Edition.
Although this half of 2020 now looks a little empty of major releases, there’s a couple of titles or DLC content which could cause a stir in the next Xbox Gameplay Chart. There’s four more titles joining the Xbox Game Pass before the month ends. April also sees the release of the new Ships of Fortune DLC for Sea of Thieves, and the possible Xbox One release of Stranded Deep, for which we just got the achievements. There’s also Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, which releases on April 30th after a month-long exclusivity release on PS4. It’s likely that will cause a stir on our Xbox Gameplay Chart, even if there’s no multiplayer aspect. What do you think? What will be the next title to challenge our top ten?
