The Guardians of the Galaxy’s decision to sell Groot or Rocket to Lady Hellbender isn’t a particularly enjoyable one, as neither option appears to be ideal. Overall, it’s a bad strategy, and while Rocket and Groot seem to like it, it just feels like a cruel, exploitative approach to earn quick cash.
You must, however, choose someone. So, if you’re trying to decide whether to sell Groot or Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy, here is where you’ll end up.
Should you sell Groot or Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy?
You’ll have a big fine hanging over your head after Nova Corp lets you go, and you’ll have no money to pay it. The Guardians of the Galaxy devise a bizarre plot to sell Groot or Rocket to Lady Hellbender, a monster collector who spends her credits on unusual animals.
You’ll make your first decision on the Milano and then have the opportunity to change your mind right before meeting Hellbender. The decision you make will have a big impact on the immediate gameplay as well as the future, so here’s what to expect:
Sell Groot?

If you opt to sell Groot, Lady Hellbender will consider him a worthy monster and offer you 10,000 credits, though this can be boosted to 12,000 credits if you let Drax handle the negotiations and don’t back down.
Groot is subsequently kidnapped, leading to a stealth segment later in the game when you must sneak through a throne chamber after a party, fight some foes, and solve an electrical junction puzzle to save him.
Sell Rocket?

It doesn’t go well if you try to sell Rocket: Lady Hellbender laughs, Rocket is enraged by the insult, and a lot of gunfire ensues. This leads to a series of battles that culminate in you being imprisoned in a vault filled with poison gas.
It’s simple to get out: have Gamora turn off the light in the middle of the room, then have Drax toss it at a weak spot in the wall. While you’re there, you can also pick up some loose cash for 12,000 credits.
Which one is the best?
Whatever you choose, you’ll enrage Lady Hellbender and have to face the same enormous boss while attempting to flee. The main differences are that selling Groot is a subtle option that allows you to visit Lady Hellbender’s castle in peacetime (just), whereas Rocket’s path is totally action-oriented, with you blasting your way out in that very Rocket-like style.
Choose between mood and gameplay to see which appeals to you the most.
