Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Trea Turner – “Turner has been excellent for the Dodgers since he was traded to them and has hits in 12 of his past 13 games. In those games, Turner is slugging .623 with an ISO of .226. Turner has eight extra-base hits including two home runs in those games. Tonight I like him to add to his hit streak and power numbers as he takes on Drew Smyly. Smyly has allowed right-handed hitters to slash .306/.370/.507 with a .374 wOBA in his road starts this season.”
Zach: Bryce Harper – “Josiah Gray is a really good young pitcher who has a chance to be great one day. With that being said Gray does struggle currently in allowing the long ball as he has allowed a home run in each of his seven games and for the season has an HR/9 rate of 3.00. Gray’s average launch angle allowed of 22.1-degrees and his barrel rate allowed of 12.6% show me that his home run struggles are likely going to continue through the rest of the season. Those struggles make Harper the perfect pick to go deep tonight as Harper is hitting the ball really well right now. Harper has an extra-base hit in five straight games for the Phillies including two home runs and is slugging .761 with an ISO of .443 in the month of August.”
Jared: C.J. Cron – “Rookie lefty Jake Latz is expected to take the mound for the Rangers today, and that lines up extremely nicely for Cron. He’s in the middle of a very strong year for the Rockies, with 24 long flies and a 129 wRC+, not to mention a 148 wRC+ mark against LHP this year. A .604 SLG, .991 OPS, .288 ISO and 8 HR in the split come together in a strong matchup for the Colorado first baseman. I’m happy to invest here, even though it’s away from Coors (and in another home run friendly park in Texas).”
