Daily MLB DFS Stacking Strategies for FanDuel & DraftKings – August 29, 2021 (8/29/21) – FantasyCruncher.com DFS Articles & Insights – fantasycruncher.com

Digging into today’s MLB DFS slate to highlight your best bats to stack.

This article will cover two to three teams that we think are the most stackable for MLB contests. If you are newer to DFS or MLB or want a general refresher on the impact of stacking in MLB, check out our research done this off-season, where we analyzed over 2,000,000 lineups to determine how many times a team of four or five hitters stacked from the same team won contests. In brief, 80.3% of winning lineups across 71 Main Slate tournaments (from 2020) had a stack of at least four players. 71.9% of that 80.3% had a stack of five players. Stacking is the main strategy to focus on when it comes to MLB. Therefore we will be approaching our hitter’s content from a stacking perspective.

Reds (@ Marlins)

11 game slate on both Draftkings and Fanduel this afternoon, and with plenty of options to consider, let’s get right to it. The Reds take on Jesús Luzardo in a road matchup vs. the Marlins. Over his last 5 starts, Luzardo has allowed 31 hits, 24 earned runs, and 5 home runs with a 9.67 ERA across 22.1 innings pitched. Luzardo is in the bottom 31st percentile in K%, the bottom 12th percentile in Barrel%, the bottom 10th percentile in xSLG, and the bottom 9th percentile in Max Exit Velocity. The Reds are in a nice spot here, and they shouldn’t have a problem taking advantage of Luzardo’s 2.39 HR/9, 40.1% FB rate, and 21.3% HR/FB rate. On Draftkings and Fanduel, the Reds are relatively cheap and should be an easy team to stack, and they may go under the radar with a middling team total of 4.51.

Low Jesus Luzardo (5.6k / 6.11) (6.5k / 10.88) Kyle Farmer (2.6k / 6.93) (2.9k / 9.03) Aristides Aquino (2.6k / 4.05) (2.3k / 5.28)
Shogo Akiyama (2k / 0.34) (2.1k / 0.44)

Rays (@ Orioles)

The Rays take on the Orioles in a road matchup vs. Spenser Watkins. Over his last 5 starts, Watkins has allowed 33 hits, 27 runs, 26 earned runs, and 4 HRs with a 10.80 ERA across 21.2 innings pitched. Watkins is in the bottom 3rd percentile in K%, the bottom 15th percentile in Barrel%, and impressively holds league-worst rankings in xERA and xwOBA. The Rays have a slate-high 6.30 implied run total and will undoubtedly be the chalk; however, this doesn’t mean we need to avoid playing them. We need to go about our lineup construction carefully in tournaments, and I’ll be looking to pair Ray’s stacks with lower-owned pitchers and lower-owned primary/secondary combinations.
