Fortnite’s big Cosmic Summer event is live. The 2 week event brings a bunch of new content to the free-to-play battle royale game including new alien tech, a bunch of challenges and free rewards and some new Item Shop summer/beach-themed skins. Here’s everything you need to know about the v17.10 update.
Alien Abductors

In Fortnite you really want to get abducted by aliens, as this gives you a chance to score some excellent loot without any real risk to life and limb.
Abductors hover over different Named Locations. When you first load into the map they’re just hovering there but very shortly after you land a white light appears and you’re beamed up into the Mothership.
Once inside, you’ll notice some floating islands and on these islands a startling discovery: bits and pieces of the original map. A pyramid from Sunny Steps. The pirate ship from the lagoon.
You’ll see black and gold orbs floating around as well, and a number of other players bouncing in low gravity. Everyone has a knock-back blaster that doesn’t do damage but can send opponents flying through the air. Collecting black orbs extends your time limit in the Mothership; collecting gold orbs grants you better loot. When the time here expires you’ll find yourself in a vast alien chamber filled with chests. You can loot until your time is up. Once you’re done you’ll redeploy and can glide to wherever you please.

MORE FOR YOU
Another addition in the v17.10 Cosmic Summer update is a new beastie. Alien parasites have infected the map and can glob on to players (or wildlife apparently). Once one of these critters attaches itself to a player’s head (waiting for the Half-Life crossover here) some interesting changes occur. A player with a head-crab loses some life, dropping to just 60 health. Shields are not affected. With that HP hit comes a couple big advantages, however. Players will be able to run faster and jump higher with a parasite on board. You’ll also gain headshot protection.
Parasites have “an aversion to water, fire, and, unsurprisingly, attacks” however, so there are ways of dealing with them if you’d rather not be possessed.
Leaked Skins
You can check out all the Cosmic Summer leaked skins right here. Brutus from Chapter 2, Season 2 returns minus the suit which, apparently, is now being worn by a little green man. Good stuff.
Trailer, LTMs and More
Rather than introduce new LTMs to the game, Epic is once again relying on Creative LTMs. Bioz Zone Wars Trio, Pro 100, Freaky Flights Air Royale and The Pit FFA all make their return and include rewards for completing challenges.
Leaked Challenges and Rewards
See all the Cosmic Summer challenges below. Rewards for completing these are in the two images below.

The v17.10 update includes this season’s “Super Skins” which you can start unlocking with Battle Stars once you’ve completed all 100 tiers of the Season 7 Battle Pass. These skin styles for Sunny, Guggimon, Zyg, Doctor Slone and Rick Sanchez include Silver, Gold and Prismatic options. Very stylish for the game’s hardest of hard-core players.
Patch Notes
Nerfs
- UFOs have been nerfed with reduced fire-rate for the saucers’ plasma barrage. “In a decisive blow against the Alien invaders, the Imagined Order has hacked their flying Saucers. The rate of fire on their ship’s plasma barrage has been reduced, allowing for a bigger window to counter-attack and shoot them right out of the sky!”
- Recon Scanners have been nerfed as well, with longer recharge times and reduced effectiveness times. “In response to their Saucers being hacked, the Aliens have retaliated against the IO. Recon Scanners now take additional time to recharge, and the lifetime of Recon Bolts has been reduced.”
Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue that allowed players to take damage through cars while in motion.
- Fixed an issue that caused us to temporarily disable the ability to change loot pools in Battle Lab. This ability has been re-enabled.
- Fixed an issue preventing Doctor Slone’s and Bunker Jonesy’s entries from completing in the Character Collection Book.
That’s pretty much everything. Happy hunting young padawns!
