Every day this season, our team will share who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. We’re calling it the “Dinger of the Day”. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Joey Gallo – “Dean Kremer is the worst starter on the board tonight and someone who has already allowed two long-balls in just six innings. The home run numbers are down for Gallo on the year, but the batting average is up which just means the home runs with come with contact since Gallo has raw power. Gallo ranks in the upper quarter of the MLB for Exit Velo and HardHit% and has really limited his strikeouts while he sits in the top tier of BB% at 23.2% – this ranks second in the MLB. The reality is, Gallo doesn’t have a ton of threats around him, so pitching around Gallo has been the strategy deployed by most teams – why let a teams best hitter beat you. This will likely remain a trend, but I applaud Gallo for gaining the patience at the plate to raise his career .210 batting average. Still, Gallo is a threat to go deep on any given night, and I will throw my chips in on a mismatch on paper.”
Zach: Shohei Ohtani – “With 2 barrels in his last 22 PA and a near 50% hard hit rate in that span, I am liking the 2-way stud today for a long ball. As long as he’s in the lineup here, there’s a great chance at a productive game regardless of leaving the yard or not.”
Jared: Jared Walsh – “Not only is he awesome because of his name (obviously), but he’s starting to hit the ball in the air a little more and has one of the better HR matchups on the board. Matt Shoemaker has a 44% hard hit rate to opposing LHBs over the last few years and is as good of a candidate as any to give up 1-2 long flies on the slate. Walsh’s launch angle has been over 20 degrees in his last week of action, and is in his far better split vs RHP today.”
