When does Rocket League become free to play? Psyonix has yet to provide an exact date, but we can assume it will coincide with the start of Season 15.
Last week, Psyonix announced that Rocket League will be going free to play later this summer. They also announced that players who have played Rocket League online prior to the free to play update will achieve Legacy status. This status comes with a number of bonuses, including items and a special “Est. 20XX” title that displays the first year you played Rocket League. You can find the list of Legacy bonuses here.

Even before the free to play announcement, Psyonix has been talking about a “major” update coming to Rocket League later this summer. They extended Competitive Season 14 and Rocket Pass 6 until the impending update. It’s safe to assume that the free to play launch will be part of this major update, whenever it arrives.
Psyonix stated that this major summer update will include “changes to competitive play, like new ranks for players at Grand Champion”. It would make sense that free to play comes with these changes as well, as Psyonix is unlikely to have two major summer updates. The free to play update is sure to bring a bunch of new players to Rocket League. Pre-existing players can look forward to flexing their Legacy bonuses.
