Bloom has been a central mechanic in Fortnite since Season 1, but more and more fans are saying that something needs to change.
Weapon bloom has always been a talking point amongst both casual and competitive Fortnite players, but recently it has been on people’s minds even more than usual. By altering the size of your crosshairs based on things like jumping, running and continuously firing, the mechanic theoretically reduces the ability to quickly spray away an enemy’s health bar and gives players under fire more time to react.
However, many gamers argue that this is not the best solution. Although there are ways to minimise the effects of bloom, like crouching and making use of first shot accuracy, a lot still comes down to luck. The alternative would be to more effectively use recoil and damage fall off to combat spray whilst also reducing RNG.
I understand there will be bad bloom but this? Epic pls pic.twitter.com/2Mw2ZQ8Vro

The clip above from everybody’s 2nd favorite PE teacher, “thatdenverguy”, displays just how unfortunate you can get with bloom in Fortnite. Sure, he wasn’t crouched or tap firing, but you could clearly see in the slowed down footage that some of those shots were right on the opponent.
So, does Epic need to reduce bloom? A lot of players certainly think so. Some also feel that the impact is different depending on your input, and therefore that mouse and keyboard bloom specifically needs to be decreased to match that on controller. There’s no doubt that a reduction to bloom would increase the skill gap, and start to heavily reward more accurate players. Judging from past decisions, that doesn’t sound like something the developers would want to do.
