There’s an Australian Esports University League With Literal $1000s Up for Grabs – Student Edge

Play Super Smash Bros. to win money? Where do we sign up?

This post is presented in partnership with Chatime.

If anyone ever told you that video games can’t help you get ahead in life, prepare to scream ‘I told you so’ at them in the loudest, most obnoxious voice ever. (Actually, don’t. They probably had your best interests in mind. Still, they were wrong, so you should at least politely send them this article, along with these pieces highlighting the professional success of Esportspeople across the globe.)

Registrations are now open for the 2020 Australian Esports University League, which is this year presented in partnership with our mates at Chatime (who offer Student Edge members 2 regular fruity/milky iced teas for $9, which isn’t super relevant here, but we love to talk about it anyway).

The Australian Esports University League is the biggest amateur league for gamers in Australia, involving more than 1,000 students from 35 universities.

Teams of uni students will compete against one another in eight different games, including Rainbow Six: Siege, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), Defence of the Ancients 2 (DOTA 2), Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Tekken 7, Overwatch and Hearthstone.

Over two online semesters and during eight live events, each participating team can compete to win a grand prize of up to $AUD2,000 per game, including prizes for runners up and bonuses from league sponsors. That means $30,000 in prizes overall.

You’ve made the sale, so stop selling! How do I make sure I’m eligible?

Entry to the league is open to all university students 16 and older across Australia. You just need a team.

If you’ve got a team of gamers or a dedicated uni club already, you’re basically set. If not, now’s the time to seek out some mates and show off your Overwatch skills. That money is on the line, after all. (Just keep in mind, you can only form a team with students from the same uni. No crossing the streams universities!

Head here to register now.

Registrations for Semester 1 close on 8 March, with competition commencing on 14 March. Entry for Semester 2 kicks off on 10 July and runs until 26 July, with the second semester starting on 1 August.

Chatime is a proud supporter of the Australian Esports University League. Remember, Student Edge members get 2 for $9 regular fruity/milky iced teas at Chatime.
