Minecraft is an ageless game, bastion of creativity and good natured … – The Torch

No, we most certainly are not too old to play Minecraft. People associate the idea of adulthood with not being able to have any fun. Denying anyone, child or not, their God-given right to play Minecraft is a horrendous misstep of power.

Minecraft is a game that was constructed for all ages. The creativity element of the game can be appreciated by all, regardless of age. You can use the three dimensional world to create large, purely-cosmetic structures according to your imagination, something of which we do not use enough of in our day-to-day lives in this capitalist economy. Or, you can elect to make elaborate Redstone contraptions, which can automate tedious processes or do fascinating things, such as building a fully functional calculator! Furthermore, the game enables you to test your skills at mob-fighting and avoiding death, whether it be by falling into a pit of lava or by a creeper sneaking up on you harvesting a tree and exploding. However, you are not trapped into having adrenaline rushes where you are fighting for your life in a game. If you are only in it to exhibit your creativity, then you can choose to not fret about mob-fighting or even all out dying. Instead, you can become a flying immortal where you can build with no resource limitations whatsoever.

Moreover, anyone can host a server to this game, which is something one might not realize until they are older. I have spent countless hours with fellow college-aged friends working towards fighting the Ender Dragon during breaks away from college. The removal from our intense and demanding lifestyles has given us all outlets to relieve the stress which we have accumulated throughout the semester, or even throughout the week.

Relishing in the memories of your childhood is something that is wrongly frowned upon as you get older. Working all day and spending time with your family in your freetime is not bad, but it is a different lifestyle for when you are older. As such, those of us who are in our 20s should enjoy the times that we don’t have as many responsibilities and obligations, because as life continues, those times will become less and less common. As a child, many of us eagerly anticipated the times we would have in adulthood, whereas now as adults we fondly recall our childhood memories, times we cannot often revisit. So, when we are allowed those opportunities, we should take them enthusiastically.

All in all, the timeless capabilities and endless possibilities of this game means that it should not by any means die out solely because of one’s age. There are no central servers to worry about “going down,” meaning that so long as the game is installed and you know of an active server you can join and play with anyone you would like.
