Six Join Northwestern (IA) Recruiting Class in December – Victory Sports Network

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College athletic communications office announces the signings of six Red Raider recruits during the month of December.

Baseball
Braydon Beelner (Ames, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College.

A member of the Ames High School baseball team, Beelner has 85 starts to his name, hitting a career average of .257 with 12 doubles, five triples, and three home runs. Beelner competed as a multi-sport athlete at Ames, earning an all-conference honorable mention nod in football, while also receiving an academic letter for achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher.

“I chose Northwestern because of the amazing athletic culture, facilities, campus, great coaching staff, and amazing academics,” Beelner commented.

He is the son of Brent and Brooke, and brother to Broghan, Brantly, and Brennen. Beelner plans to study pre-Physical Therapy at Northwestern.

Esports
Dash Headley (Gothenburg, Neb.) has announced his intention to attend Northwestern College and join the Rocket League team.

Headley comes to Northwestern from Eustis-Farnam Public School where he was a two-year Rocket League player. In his most recent season, Headley’s team compiled a record of 12-1.

He credits the kindness of others on campus and the faith emphasis as reasons for choosing Northwestern.

Dash is the son of April Headley, and brother to Gage, Mallory, and Shelby. He plans to study Computer Science at Northwestern.

Men’s Cross Country/Track and Field
Ashton Hughes (Papillion, Neb.) has announced his intention to attend Northwestern College and join the cross country and track and field programs.

In his career at Cornerstone Christian High School, Hughes had a decorated career in track and cross country. In his most recent cross country season, Hughes was a fourth-place finisher at the Class D state championship, helping his team to a state title. He ran a personal best 17:02 in 2022 and was on state qualifying teams in 2019, 2021, and 2022. On the track, Hughes was a two-time conference champion in the 3200m and 1600m, a 2021 district champion in both events, and a two-time state qualifier in those same events.

In the classroom, Hughes has been an honor roll student in every semester, an academic all-state honoree, and earned an Academic Excellence Award.

“I chose Northwestern because it has everything I want in a college – a Christian community with students, coaches, and faculty who desire to build each other up and help lead others in their faith journeys, all while equipping me for my future and striving for God-honoring excellence,” Hughes said. “There are many exciting opportunities in front of me, and I am looking forward to seeing God’s plan for me as a Raider!”

He is the son of Neal and Cami Hughes, and brother to Lily. Hughes plans to study Kinesiology at Northwestern.

Men’s Soccer
Tark Griebel (Sioux Falls, S.D.) has announced his intention to attend Northwestern College and continue his soccer career.0

A left wing and wingback at Sioux Falls Christian High School, Griebel scored four goals and tallied 10 assists as a senior in the Chargers’ state championship season. He was named an all-state honorable mention and was a team captain. In addition to his play at Sioux Falls Christian, Griebel was a member of the Tea Tempo club team where he recorded 16 goals and 28 assists.

A member of the National Honor Society, Griebel plans to study Education at Northwestern.

“I chose Northwestern because of the real Christian aspect,” said Griebel. “I appreciated how the professors spent time getting to know me and how the soccer team is set up and run.”

He is the son of Jennifer and Nordell, and brother to Gage, Brandt, and Brogan.

Rick Lammerts (Gemert, North-Brabant, Netherlands) has signed a letter of intent to continue his soccer career at Northwestern College.0

Lammerts prepped at Macropedius College, playing goalkeeper. As a member of VV Gemert U-19, Lammerts allowed 20 goals for a team that finished first in their division. In addition to his involvement with VV Gemert, Lammerts was also a member of the NEC Nijmegen soccer academy.

“The decision to go to Northwestern started with a great first contact with coach Dan Swier,” commented Lammerts. “Together with the excellent academics and very good soccer facilities, Northwestern was the college that I wanted to attend. Having the feeling that I would be at home was the deciding factor to go to Northwestern.”

He is the son of Ronald and Nicole Lammerts. Lammerts plans to study Psychology or Business Administration at Northwestern.

Softball/Volleyball
Logan Miller (Jefferson, S.D.) has signed a letter of intent to continue her softball and volleyball careers at Northwestern College.

A multi-sport athlete at Dakota Valley High School, Miller most recently totaled 968 assists, 49 service aces, 217 digs, and 80 kills for the Panther volleyball team in 2022. She was named Class A Miss Volleyball for the 2022 season, 2022 Midco Sports Class A Player of the Year, was a First Team All-State honoree twice, a three-time All-Tournament team selection, and a two-time First Team All-Conference performer. Miller also had a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society, being named a First Team member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Best and Brightest.

“I was drawn to Northwestern by the athletic programs that Coach Kyle Van Den Bosch and Coach Shane Bouman have built, and I am so thankful for every opportunity they have presented me,” noted Miller. “I know that I will receive a great education here that will benefit me in the future. The people at Northwestern are so welcoming, and the atmosphere is just as incredible.”

Logan is the daughter of Mary and Scott Miller. She is currently undecided on her anticipated field of study.
