If it turns out to be true, this could be the largest leak we’ve seen in Fortnite yet, bigger than a new season and certainly bigger than a new item. Dataminers found something interesting when pouring through the new files this morning: not one new point of interest, not two, but 13, showing off a massive list of a kind that we haven’t really seen in the game so far. Clearly, 13 new points of interest would constitute a much larger scale map change than anything we’ve seen with any season before, possibly more than the current map could sustain. Which, in my mind, points to a new map.

Here are the possible new locations, via dataminer Lucas7Yoshi:

• Beachy Bluffs
• Camp Cod
• Creative Island
• Dirty Docks
• Frenzy Farm
• Holly Hedges
• Lazy Lake
• Mountain Meadow
• Power Plant
• Slurpy Swamp
• Sunny Shores
• Weeping Woods

Here’s why I think that this rumor has real legitimacy this time around: Season X feels like it’s been preparing for it the whole time. That’s because we didn’t see any major map changes at the beginning of the season, and the majority of the changes since have all been about bringing back old POIs, in other words, things that didn’t require as much new development work. The one truly new area is Tilted Town, but I strongly suspect that the team built that for Season 5 but didn’t wind up using it. That’s just the sort of thing you were doing if you were trying to be smart about how to use limited development resources if you had a much larger project coming for the next season.

By the end of this season, the map is going to be a mess of weird POIs old and new, and returning back to some semblance of normalcy would require a huge leap. Things are just sort of chaos at the moment, and it feels like they’re going to keep being chaos for the next couple of weeks. After that, the logical thing to do would be to bring this whole rift thing to a massive boil and maybe create one giant rift that would level the whole map and get us to start fresh. Again, this is a rumor we’ve heard before. This time, however, I think it’s going to turn out to be true.

The visitor is returning to Fortnite, and they’re the one that arguably kicked off this entire plotline to begin with. It would be a fitting end for it to initiate whatever major change ends up deleting this map and starting over. Fortnite is on the decline, which is inevitable for a game that reached the heights that it did in 2018. Something big, however, could bring some eyeballs back to the game.
