X1 Esports and Entertainment Ltd. (CSE:XONE) has announced a deal to acquire Octane.GG, an online fan statistics platform focused on the hit video game Rocket League.
Rocket League, the video game that has its players playing futuristic soccer with cars, averages 80 million players a month globally. The plan for X1 is to merge the media assets of Octane with the recently-acquired media assets of ShiftRLE into a new super destination for Rocket League players and fans.
Specifically, the Shift/Octane media hybrid will allow X1 to launch Rocket League fantasy sports, the company said.

“Adding Octane to the X1 portfolio will significantly strengthen our position within the Rocket League ecosystem,” X1 CEO Mark Elfenbein said. “Through strategically combining Octane’s community-facing assets with those of our recently announced acquisition, ShiftRLE, we believe we can fill and capitalize on a highly valuable void for a Rocket League media destination.”
The transaction is expected to strengthen X1’s position in video game media, considering Octane’s 16,500 social media followers, and Shift’s existing 40,000 followers.
Octane, founded in 2017, has collected data for hundreds of thousands of Rocket League games and thousands of players, teams and events, making it the primary source of statistics for Rocket League. Using the platform, fans can check in on game days to see how their favorite players and teams are performing, while coaches and commentators can use the data to draw conclusions and create narratives around how players and teams are trending.
“I built Octane as a college student back in 2017 to fill a void I saw as a Rocket League Esports fan,” said Octane founder Kartik Patel. “It’s incredible to see how much the space has evolved since then, and I’m excited that Octane will have a new home with X1 to further this valuable resource.”
X1 Esports and Entertainment is a video game and media portfolio company that owns and operates a growing esports franchise, RixGG. X1 runs video game competitions by teams for cash prizes, and operations ancillary to the competitions such as merchandise and tournaments.
