In this article, we cover four core plays for FanDuel & DraftKings daily fantasy baseball contests. These players are the ones we are going to have strong GPP exposure to for the main slate.
Let’s jump right into today’s article.
As a reminder, we focus primarily on lower-owned candidates for GPP tournament leverage. If you are looking for cash game plays, make sure to check out all the other great articles that we post on FantasyCruncher on a daily basis, like our Cheat Sheets, Daily Dinger & much more.
Top Pitcher
Aaron Ashby
The Padres have hit left-handed pitching well this season and rank in the top 11 in team ISO, team wOBA, and team OPS against them. That makes Ashby a little bit of a risk today but a risk I am willing to take at his projected ownership based on the way he has been pitching. Ashby has an ERA of 2.70 and a K rate of 29.5% this season. If we just look at his past two outings which were starts as Ashby normally spends time in the Brewers bullpen we will see Ashby has allowed just one earned run while striking out 17 in 11.2 innings of action. Ashby has at least 18 fantasy points in each of those outings. What also makes me think that Ashby is well worth the risk today is one of those outings also was against the Padres.
Stud Hitter
Manny Machado
While I really like Ashby as a GPP play I am not going to be avoiding all of the Padres hitters against him. Machado is one of the Padres hitters I will still be targeting today as he has been the MVP of the National League to start the season and has crushed left-handed pitching. Machado has six home runs against left-handed pitching this season and is slashing .370/.464/.783 with a .510 wOBA. Machado is also in the midst of a hot streak as he has at least one hit and one RBI or run scored in four of his past five games.
Value Hitter
Cal Mitchell
Mitchell started his career off hot with hits in each of his first four games but has gone hitless in each of his past four games. After the hitless streak, Mitchell is now slashing .167/.219/.233 with a wOBA of .206. Those frankly are bad numbers and numbers we should be avoiding when it comes to hitters. I personally cannot avoid Mitchell as he is too cheap and in too good of a match-up for me against Zach Davies. Davies has allowed five home runs in his past three games and has an ERA of 7.23 in his past four games. Davies has struggled the most this season against left-handed hitters allowing them to hit .273.
Top Stack
Pittsburg Pirates
I talked about Zach Davies’s struggles as of late earlier in this article and I think the Pirates as a whole are a great team to stack today at what should be low ownership as they are the Pirates. James who also writes content here at FantasyCruncher also likes the Pirates and wrote them up in today’s Stacking Article. I am going to leave a link to that article below as I think he did a great job in explaining why you should stack the Pirates today.
