In this article, we cover four core plays for FanDuel & DraftKings daily fantasy baseball contests. These players are the ones we are going to have strong GPP exposure to for the main slate.
Let’s jump right into today’s article.
As a reminder, we focus primarily on lower-owned candidates for GPP tournament leverage. If you are looking for cash game plays, make sure to check out all the other great articles that we post on FantasyCruncher on a daily basis, like our Cheat Sheets, Daily Dinger & much more.
Top Pitcher
Zac Gallen
We only have six games on the Main Slate tonight but even with only six games, there are several elite pitchers. Gallen is one of those elite pitchers but he figures to carry the least ownership as he is coming off an awful game. In his last start, Gallen allowed six runs in just 5.1 innings of action. While that start was bad it doesn’t figure to happen again as Gallen had allowed a total of five runs in his previous seven starts combined. The match-up for Gallen is also not as bad as one would think as the Braves have struggled against right-handed pitching. This season the Braves rank 20th in team wOBA while having the highest team K rate against right-handed pitching.
Stud Hitter
Marcus Semien
I talked about Semien last week as a player that looks like he has turned the corner and since that write up it is no longer a question of if Semien is turning the corner as he has made the turn. Semien has five hits including a home run with five runs scored, seven RBIs, and two stolen bases in the three games since I wrote up Semien. In his past 11 games, Semien is slashing .311/.360/.444 with 14 hits including three extra-base hits, six runs scored, nine RBIs, and four stolen bases. While Drew Rasmussen is the best pitcher on this slate I don’t see Semien slowing down tonight.
Value Hitter
Nelson Cruz
Cruz looked like father time had finally caught up to him to start the season but like Marcus Semien has turned his season around as of late. Cruz is on a ten-game hitting streak with a .444/.487/.583 slash line in those ten games. Cruz is not only smoking hot right now but I don’t mind the match-up against David Peterson who has faltered a bit lately. Peterson has allowed six runs and two home runs in his past two starts.
Top Stack
Baltimore Orioles
There are some clear-cut top teams when it comes to teams you should stack tonight. The Orioles are not one of those clear-cut top teams but I still really like them as they take on Rich Hill. Hill is not an awful pitcher but he is a pitcher that has struggled at Fenway Park this season. In his home starts, Hill has an ERA of 6.17, a WHIP of 1.46, and an HR/9 rate of 2.31. Hitters are slashing .277/.333/.511 with a .368 wOBA against Hill in those home starts.
