MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Mar. 14, 2022 – Varsity eSports is the newest sport to be launched from North Central University’s Athletics department.
North Central University’s varsity eSports team is the first of its kind in the Twin Cities, treating gamers not only as students, but also as varsity athletes in this growing sport. Students will have access to a state-of-the-art eSports arena, will receive professional coaching, and will compete with teams across the nation. Students who are recruited for this program may be
eligible for scholarships.
ESports are organized video game competitions that are often broadcast for viewers across the world to enjoy. Gamers may compete as teams or individuals in competitive video game tournaments.
ESports are growing in popularity world-wide, and more colleges in the United States are beginning to develop eSports opportunities as a part of their Athletics programming. Video games are only growing in popularity with today’s youth, and in offering this new program, students are incentivized to also continue pursuing academic goals along with their passion for
gaming.
North Central University plans to host four eSports teams, each playing a separate game. Teams will play Rocket League, League of Legends, Fortnite, and Valorant.
The world of sports is changing, and with this new varsity eSports program, North Central University hopes to continue developing its Athletic program to include all kinds of athletes.
