Minecraft has been out a long time now and it’s available on almost every platform available in some capacity. In the last few years, we’ve even seen Minecraft get a few spin-off games – Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft: Story Mode. If you’re looking to play Minecraft for free, we have everything you need to know about how you can access a free version of Minecraft on your PC.
How to Play Minecraft for Free
If you want to play Minecraft for free, you’re going to need to sacrifice a few things that you’d get in the paid version of Minecraft. The free version of Minecraft that is officially available is a browser-based Creative mode from the 2009 iteration of the game – that’s Minecraft that is twelve years old!
All you need to do is head to the following website in order to start playing!
- classic.minecraft.net

When you get here, the game will start and your own custom server will be created – from here, you’ll have a unique URL you can share with your friends to play together with. This has been around since the 10th Anniversary celebrations in 2019 and you can even see the announcement tweet below:
It’s important to note that this is Minecraft with the original 32 blocks and there’s no way to save your progress once you close the browser – or even the tab with your Minecraft server open! That means you’re going to need to keep your PC on and your Browser open if you want to play this free version of Minecraft for more than one session.
Of course, there are other ways to access Minecraft for free – but they’re as risky as they are time-consuming and you still won’t be able to fully appreciate Minecraft where it is at the moment. There is so much to do in Minecraft now and so many new updates… It’s arguably the perfect sandbox game. We’ll keep you updated if the full version of Minecraft is ever free to play, but we wouldn’t count on that happening any time soon.
