During this week’s Xbox Developer Direct showcase, Mojang announced the release date for Minecraft Legends, an upcoming action-strategy spinoff from the studio’s popular sandbox title. It’ set to release on April 18 for all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5|4, Steam, Windows 11|10, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. As a first-party Xbox title, it will also be available through PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass, meaning it will be free for subscribers.
During the showcase, we also got our first proper look at the gameplay of Minecraft Legends, which promises an open world “filled with treasures and perils.” In the game, you play as a hero fighting back against the pilgins’ Nether corruption. Fight alongside friends and even some old foes as you battle back against the vicious pilgins. Check out the gameplay below.
One of the interesting reveals in the trailer is support for what looks like some form of PvP. The trailer very mentions challenging or teaming up with friends, and then we get a very brief glimpse at a public versus mode featuring two teams of four. I’m not sure exactly how it will work, but it’s a fun addition for those who enjoy competing against others.
There will be two versions of Minecraft Legends: the Standard Edition, which is just the base game, for $39.99 and the Deluxe Edition for $49.99. The latter contains the Deluxe Skin pack at a discounted price. This features a hero skin, four mount skins, and an additional mount skin that you’ll get post-launch. Eventually, the Deluxe Skin Pack will be available for purchase separately for $14.99, so you’ll save $5 by purchasing the Deluxe Edition of the game.
With a few more months until the launch of Minecraft Legends, we look forward to Mojang sharing more in-depth details about the highly anticipated Minecraft spinoff.
