BETHALTO — In its inaugural year of competition, Zion Lutheran School in Bethalto was named the Division II Rocket League champion.

The group is led by John Zilm and Amanda Densmore, The students claimed first and second place honors, as well as a $500 cash prize.

“I appreciated that it was a chance for students to enjoy fellowship in competition in a non-traditional sport,” said Zilm. “They learned to work together and respect each other, as there were some younger students with high level skills and older students who were novice players in some games.

“I also really liked having another club offering at our school, and it’s a way for us to glorify God by using the talents he has given us,” he said,.

Students said they enjoyed working with their teammates and the competitiveness of the contest.

Zion Lutheran School is a nationally accredited school serving 3-year-old preschool through Grade 8.
