Keffer, Baer power green seniors past maroon | Win Or Lose | theredstonerocket.com – Theredstonerocket

The difference in this game was R&R.

That stands for Randy Keffer and Ron Baer.

Together they drove in eight runs as the green team beat the maroon 16-13 on Sept. 12 at field 2 in Brahan Spring Park. This was the winners bracket final of the end-of-season tournament in the 55-and-over Rockets league in Huntsville Senior Softball.

Green won the championship Thursday by beating navy blue 14-12 in the final.

Batting third in the lineup Sept. 12, Keffer went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, three runs batted in and four runs scored. Baer, the cleanup hitter, went 4-for-4 with a three-run homer, five RBIs and two runs.

Keffer, the left fielder, set the tone with his blast to center in the top of the first for green (19-16).

“Our defense was there,” he said. “And then hustle on the bases and timely hits.”

Jorge Marin, Tom Fickling, player/coach Tim Lawter, Denny Reasner, Phillip Benefield, Dee Benson and Larry Guthrie added two hits apiece. Defensively, green turned a 6-4-3 double play in the sixth.

Jim “Hitman” Myers pitched all seven innings for the win against maroon (19-15), the six-team tournament’s top seed.

“Teamwork, great defense and consistent hitting,” Lawter said. “Overall great team effort with outstanding team spirit.”

Scott Landers went 5-for-5 with a two-run homer, three doubles, two RBIs and four runs for maroon. David Allen had four hits while player/coach Chris Maggio had three. Mike Panko, Chad McGuire and Bill Santi had two hits apiece. McGuire took the loss.

“We actually made too many errors in the field,” Maggio said. “We hit good. We just had too many errors.”
