In recent years, esports competitions have become popular, and among their participants are players who have become stars of the field. Which football games have the greatest competitive potential in 2022?
EA SPORTS FIFA, the classic
The 30th FIFA game will be released on PC and consoles on September 30, 2022, and it is the most played football games license today. If it is not yet possible to perform sport bets on FIFA competitions in France, international bookmakers already offer it, which proves the unparalleled popularity of the game in the world.
The FIFA competitive scene is made up of three major competitions: the FIFAe World Cup, the FIFAe Club World Cup and the FIFAe Nations Cup, which together offer a total of $1.2 million in prize pools. Don’t forget that as of September 2023, FIFA will change its name to EA SPORTS FC.
eFootball, the direct competitor
Even if the esports scene of eFootball remains marginal compared to that of FIFA, it nevertheless remains attractive. Indeed, KONAMI’s flagship license formerly known as PES has forged a partnership with the French Football Federation.
The two main competitions on eFootball are the eFootball Championship Open, reserved for individual players on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and mobile, and the eFootball Championship Pro, won for the third time in four years by AS Monaco.
Rocket League, competition first
Rocket League denotes other football games considering its original gameplay but it is the most popular football game in terms of esports competitions. Indeed, the Rocket League Championship Series sees many popular teams compete against each other, including the excellent Karmine Corp and Team BDS.
It is also the latter which won the last edition 2021-2022 as well as 600,000 dollars in cash prize, out of the 2 million dollars in the total prize pool.
Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, the big disappointment
Many expectations were placed in the new version of the football game made by Nintendo, 15 years after the version released on Wii. Unfortunately, the game struggles to meet players’ expectations, given a limited character roster, much less nervous gameplay than in older versions, and the absence of a competitive online 4v4 mode.
So there is a good chance that the competitive scene of this game will not leave the confidential circle of video game conventions like Japan Expo or Paris Games Week in France.
