What Is The RLCS World Championship Format?
The RLCS has changed its format a little this season. There are going to be two phases to the championship with one taking place prior to the events taking place between 12 August, 2022, and 14 August, 2022.
A World Championship Wild Card event will precede the World Championship Main event. The World Championship Wild Card event will include 16 teams who haven’t already qualified for the main event and will face off in a Swiss format. The eight best sides from the wildcard event will have to win three games to qualify for the World Championship Main event
The World Champions Main event will now involve the eight teams that qualified from the Wildcard Event and those that had qualified directly for the main event. The World Championship Main Event will include double elimination groups with eight teams in each. The top four sides from each group will then face each other in a single-elimination bracket before the two finalists face off to be anointed Rocket League World Champions.
Who Is Likely To Win The RLCS World Championship 2022?
Moist Esports head into the RLCS as heavy favorites. The team was formed this year after acquiring members from the former Rocket League esports team, Team Queso. Moist Esports have been in spectacular form since forming a team, winning the RLCS 2021-2022 Spring Split Major just last month thanks to the help of star player, Vatira. The Frenchman, still only 16 years old, won the European RLCS MVP award last month along with the Spring Major Defensive MVP.
Next up as likely RLCS winners are The General NRG, formerly known simply as NRG, who won the RLCS World Championship season 8 back in 2019. If we are to go by history, no other team has had a more glorious run in recent years. They were runners-up for RLCS 2021-22 – Fall Split Major, winners of RLCS Season X – North American Championship, RLCS Season X – Spring: NA Major and nearly everything between the years 2018-2021. Winning is a great habit and having that finals experience along with that mentality to get over the line will be crucial.
Falling just a bit short in the Fall Split Major this year will also have wounded their pride, giving them even more motivation to make that right in the RLCS championship. Between Moist Esports and The General NRG, it’s really hard to pick an outright favorite but it’ll come as a big surprise if anyone else makes it to that RLCS World Championship finals, never mind win the whole thing.
G2 Esports, Team Falcons and FaZe Clan will back themselves to do the job but it’ll be hard with these two behemoths involved. All three organizations are big names in all of esports, not limited to Rocket League and come with massive expectations. None of them have yet cemented their status as the best in the RLCS and will want to put their mark on another esports competition and this year offers a great chance for them to do just that.
G2 Esports won the RLCS 2021-22 – Winter Split Major back in March, FaZe Clan won the RLCS 2021-22 – Spring: NA Regional Event 3 – Nissan Classic, and Team Falcons came second in RLCS 2021-22 – Spring Split Major last month. All three sides have great pedigree and will provide excellent competition to the two favorites. With so many teams to choose between and little margins likely to make the difference, the RLCS World Championship 2022 promises to be the best one yet.
How Much Does The RLCS World Championship 2022 Winner Make?
The RLCS winner will receive $600,000, the runner-up will receive $400,000 and the team that comes in third place will receive $200,000. The rest of the money from the prize pool will be split between the rest of the teams depending on their final ranking. The total prize pool is $2,085,000.
Qualifying for the RLC World Championship merits a rich reward as this is a highly competitive event and has grown since last season. The prize pool reflects the same.
