AJ Allmendinger – $10,100 – Starting 2nd
We head to Michigan this week and the 2-mile D oval that usually ends up being a track that favors strong equipment and a lot of side-by-side racing. I say it favors strong equipment as we have some decent straightaways that command consistent power. There are a lot of top-price names today that could realistically be options. Ty Gibbs, Noah Gragson, and Justin Allgaier all fall into the top tier of options for us today. Allmendinger is not a cheapie himself, but his slight discount on his pricing is what puts him towards the top for me today. Allmendinger took the win at Indianapolis last weekend and won the last Xfinity race here in Michigan. Last year, Allmendinger led 70 laps and took the win after starting second. He also has a second-place finish here in the Cup Series. From a technical driver standpoint, we can’t get much better than Allmendinger, and equipment-wise we are not looking at any issues. In the last 29 races here, 17 of the winners have come from inside the top-5. If you are looking at a pure place differential play, John Nemechek should be popular starting 31st.
Low Dollar
Mason Massey – $5,800 – Starting 29th
Mason Massey just continues to be priced too low. At $5,800 we are getting a huge discount on a guy who has an average finish of 23.4 in 13 races. Over his last five races, Massey has no finish worse than 24th and an 11th and 18th to boot. With Mario Gosselin equipment, Massey shouldn’t have any glaring equipment issues. There is an obvious risk here still with any driver priced towards the bottom tier of pricing, but ultimately the pricing here just doesn’t make a ton of sense.
