In this article, we cover four core plays for FanDuel & DraftKings daily fantasy baseball contests. These players are the ones we are going to have strong GPP exposure to for the main slate.
Let’s jump right into today’s article.
As a reminder, we focus primarily on lower-owned candidates for GPP tournament leverage. If you are looking for cash game plays, check out all the other great articles we post on FantasyCruncher daily, like our Cheat Sheets, Daily Dinger & much more.
Top Pitcher
Reid Detmers
Detmers has not been great since his no-hitter as he has produced less than ten fantasy points in four of the five starts while having an ERA of 4.91 and a WHIP of 1.41 in those starts. While those numbers don’t inspire confidence in Detmers I like him as a cheaper play tonight for two reasons. The first is the game is at home and Detmers has pitched extremely well at home. This season Detmers has an ERA of 2.70 and a WHIP of 0.72 in his home starts. The second reason I like Detmers is his match-up against the Royals. The Royals are a bottom ten team against left-handed pitching in the statistical categories I look at the most for my pitcher’s team ISO, team OPS, team wRC+, team wOBA, and runs scored per game.
Stud Hitter
Jake Cronenworth
I am going to go right back to Cronenworth in this article as he paid off big time for me with another game reaching base safely multiple times and a home run. Cronenworth now has hits in eight straight games and has reached base safely multiple times in each of those eight games. Cronenworth is slashing .531/.615/.813 with an ISO of .281 and a wOBA of .601 in those games. While Cronenworth’s salary is hard to stomach his elevated salary is what is keeping his ownership levels low otherwise a player as hot as Cronenworth is would be one of the most popular players on this slate.
Value Hitter
Jack Suwinski
I wanted to write up Oneil Cruz again in this article but I have a feeling that Cruz will be the most popular player on this slate as he is the minimum salary and eligible for multiple positions. Instead of going with Cruz, I am going to pivot to his teammate Suwinski who should be as popular as Cruz is tonight but doesn’t figure to be. Suwinski should be as popular as Cruz is due to the fact he is only $100 above the site minimum salary and smoking hot. Suwinski has hits in four straight games, reached base safely multiple times in three straight games and of course had that three home run game on Sunday. The match-up for Suwinski is also an excellent one as he takes on Matt Swarmer who has allowed seven home runs in his past two starts.
Top Stack
Pittsburg Pirates
I thought about writing up another team other than the Pirates in this article as I don’t like to duplicate teams when I write the Stacking Article but I can’t do it. The Pirates are just in such a great spot, dirt cheap, and are expected to have low ownership tonight. For an in-depth breakdown on why I like the Pirates make sure to check out the Stacking Article.
