Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning MLB DFS lineups along the way.
As always, FantasyCruncher has several daily articles from pitching to stacking, to home run picks, to general cheat sheets to help you build your daily lineups. And the best news, it is all free! This year for 2022, we are changing up the scoring for the home run calls to be weighted based on the player’s salary. If one of our writers chooses a player with a salary over $5,000 it will be worth 0.5 points. Between $4-$4.9k is 1 point, $3-$3.9k is 2 points, and anyone $2.9k or below is worth 3 points. In terms of salary, we are going off of DraftKings salary for this article. Again, the scoring system is just a fun and friendly competition between our MLB content writers.
Today’s Picks
James: Daulton Varsho ($4,400) – Dylan Bundy takes the hill for the Twins tonight and while Bundy has been great in Minnesota, he has been absolutely terrible on the road. In six road starts, Bundy has a WHIP of 1.86, an ERA of 8.54, and is allowing opposing hitters to bat .353. Not only that, this is a road start on the west coast. Bundy has allowed seven of his ten home runs on the road and five of them have come to lefties. Lefties have about 40 fewer at-bats against Bundy as righties do this year. Left-handed hitters are hitting .321 and slugging .568 against Bundy. Varsho has nine homers so far on the year and all nine have come against right-handed pitching.
Zach: Mike Trout ($5,200) – Justus Sheffield is returning to a starting role for the Mariners tonight and I love the Angels hitters in this one, particularly their right-handed hitters. Last season, Sheffield allowed right-handed hitters to slash .322/.409/.549 with a .407 wOBA. Twelve of the 14 home runs hit off of Sheffield last season came courtesy of right-handed hitters. Trout is my favorite of the Angels righties tonight as he of course is one of the best hitters of all time and this season against left-handed pitching Trout has an OPS of 1.104 with an ISO of .294.
Jared: Christian Walker ($3,900) – Not only is this taking place in a great hitter’s environment, but we get to pick on a struggling pitcher who is giving up a ton of hard contact and long balls. In his last 4 starts, he’s lasted only 18 innings and has a SIERA of 4.75 to go along with a 90.8 mph exit velocity average. Walker’s one of the Diamondbacks’ best power hitters, and is averaging a homer-friendly 91.6 mph / 17.4 degree LA average in his last 6 games (27 PA). Twelve of his sixteen homers this year have come against RHP, and even though he’s batting a mere .173 in the split this year, a ridiculously unlucky .160 BABIP tells much of the story (especially where historically, he’s fared extremely well in the split). The moral of the story is that he’s got solid power, is facing a struggling SP in a nice hitter’s park, and is a great candidate to deliver a long ball this evening.
