This week the tour heads north for The 2022 RBC Canadian Open. This year, the tournament will take place at St. George’s – which is an illustrious track tucked away in the west end of Toronto. Short in nature, it checks in at just over 7000 yards, and is a Par 70 track that has an odd make-up with five Par 3’s and three Par 5’s. All in all, accuracy and approach games are paramount here, and in terms of metrics – I’ll be focusing on:
- SG (APP)
- Driving Accuracy
- SG (OTT)
- Bogey Avoidance
The greens here are bentgrass, so if you are running putting metrics as part of your evaluation, make sure to filter out for SG: Putting (Bentgrass). The greens here are a little smaller than most – so I don’t think you necessarily have to bump it up on your metrics screen – but if you are screening out for putting prowess, bentgrass is the way to go here at St. George’s.
There isn’t any extensive course history here as the tournament moves around with it being hosted at Glen Abbey most years. The last time it was at St. George’s, Carl Pettersson won – so all in all, I think you can just avoid course history altogether when it comes to building line-ups and focus on accurate ball strikers in terms of helping to narrow down the field.
