Today we’ll take a look at last night’s Relay Throw on DraftKings.
An 8 game slate morphed into a 7 gamer with the Yankees/Angels being postponed after lock. Let’s jump in and see what “meaganjoy” did to snatch first place and 50K last night.
Happy Thursday everybody, I don’t know about you but my days of the week are always thrown off after a long weekend. Last night The Yankees/Angles weather threw some initial ownership projection numbers out of wack. I hope you were able to get them out of your lineups, as this was not the case for some. Nestor Cortes and Aaron Judge both carried around 10% ownership in the Relay Throw which presented a good opportunity for those who removed that game from their player pool to gain a leg up on the field.
The Winning Lineup:

“meaganjoy” got sneaky on a 7 gamer with her 4 man Orioles stack against the highest owned pitcher on the slate, Robbie Ray.
Salary Used: $48,800 | Pitcher Ownership: 55.9%
Lineup Construction | Place in the Batting Order
4 man: 1-5-6-7
3 man: 1-4-8
one off: 1
The lineup faded top owned pitcher Robbie Ray (48% owned, 9.85 fpts) and was rewarded by going to Tarik Skubal (36% owned, 29.95 fpts) and Jon Gray (19.9% owned,34.75 fpts). For bats, the lineup deployed a 4-3-1 stack led by an Orioles 4 man stack that contributed to a slate high 9 runs. I’m always intrigued when you see a stack against the highest owned pitcher on the slate ship first. This is leverage at it’s finest. The middle of the order each produced a home run and was paired with Cedric Mullins who had a solid game out of the leadoff spot with 12 fantasy points.
The Blue Jays 3 man was spaced throughout the batting order (1-4-8) with each hitting double digit fantasy points. The lineup was rounded out with a chalky Mookie Betts (26.2% owned, 22 fpts) which is completely fine within the context of the lineup when the players in your 4 man stack are all sub 6% owned.
Key Takeaway: Overall this was an interesting slate. You had the Yankees/Angels game which was projected to carry some ownership get postponed and then you had the two highest scoring teams be the Orioles and Pirates. On these smaller slates the ownership is going to concentrate on these higher implied team total teams, we saw here by not only fading the highest owned pitcher but then in turn stacking against them was rewarded. And then there’s the luck factor here which I feel like does not get enough attention overall throughout DFS. You can put yourself in good positions with strategies or stack structures but you are going to need some luck as well. Getting home runs from the 5-6-7 hitters on a team facing the highest owned pitcher is about as good as you can hope for.
