Epic
Fortnite is headed toward another big live event, and this time, they’re actually releasing official information about it rather than letting leakers beat them to it.
Epic has just shown off a new Fortnite image that shows Agent Jonesy standing in front of the wrecked corpse of the Mecha Bear, the giant robot that was built in Chapter 1, Season 9, almost three years and two maps ago.
Well, because of the weird time and space rules of the Fortnite universe, the Mecha Bear is back after its victory over the monster from that season, albeit somewhat worse for wear. And now players are being asked to repair it ahead of the live event that will end this season:
“It’s Time to Rebuild – Resistance Week 9 – Gather parts and intel to help The Seven rebuild their offensive against the Imagined Order.”
What exactly this looks like in practice remains to be seen, but it seems the Mecha Bear will be repaired and used as a weapon against the Imagined Order and their recently constructed doomsday device. It’s not clear if this will be another “spectator event” like the original Mech versus Monster fight where we watched them tumble around the map, destroying things, or if we will be more active participants. Given how things have been trending, we will probably have something to do, as events lately have been more about having as actually participate in “missions” rather than just observing large-scale map events.
Giant battles on the map almost always transform the map in some way, so I expect that to happen here. Other leaked strings from the event make references to missile barrages, but also a few things about a moon pod, and some are predicting the moon as a location we’ll visit next season, where we already know we’re getting a bunch of new Star Wars skins, even if the theme of the season is not Star Wars outright.
MORE FOR YOU
I do miss good old fashioned Fortnite live events, as I think the game has been a bit stuck with these lately. Looking forward to seeing somewhat hopefully cool as we take on IO with the Mecha Bear, even if I don’t fully understand how it got here from the other dimension. I’m just not going to think about it too hard.
More to come soon, and we’ll see how this plays out in-game ahead of the event which should be on or around June 3rd, best we know right now.
