Rocket League esports team, Version1, will be heading to Los Angeles in March to attend the RLCS 2021-22 Winter Split Majors, after an impressive win at last weekend’s RLCS Mobil 1 Mountain Classic. The team who are now ranked fourth in the North American Winter Split leaderboards, came out on top after a series of impressive wins against The General NRG, whom recently took home the X Games Gold Medal.

What’s more egregious than NRG’s loss here, though, is Psyonix’s decision to partner with Exxon Mobil for this RLCS Regional. This is the same company that knew about Climate Change forty years ago and refused to do anything about it, one of the most environmentally destructive company’s in history. It’s hard, to be honest, to forgive Psyonix and the RLCS for allowing and engaging in such a partnership.

I appreciate the plays, I appreciate V1’s ability to absolutely murder at the most recent RLCS 2021-22 Regional, but we won’t be referring to this particular event by its official name, as I’d rather not give this company’s name any more publicity than they already have. Luckily, though RLCS 2021-22’s Winter Split Major is due next month and will be the first in-person RLCS Event since the pandemic hit in early 2020.

Version1 Heading to RLCS 2021-22 Winter Split Majors

Version1 are one of only five North American teams heading to the RLCS 2021-22 Winter Split Majors from March 23 to March 27, 2022. The final placement puts them at fourth on the current leaderboards, above Spacestation Gaming but below The General NRG – whom lost against Version1 in this weekend’s Grand Final – G2 Esports and FaZe Clan.

The team, made up of Kyle “Torment” Storer, Robert “Comm” Kyser, and Landom “BeastMode” Konerman, were in full and fine form on the weekend, taking out the Grand Finals 4-1 against The General NRG. This also boosts them into sixth place in the overall North American leaderboards for RLCS 2021-22. It will be interesting to see how much further they make it and whether we will see them in the RLCS 2021-22 Championships later this year.
