This week we have another strong field event as the tour takes us to Riviera, which checks in at over 7300 yards for the Par 71 track and ball striking will be the primary focus along with recent form when it comes to narrowing down the field for this week’s event. There is no shortage of options to choose from when it comes to building line-ups, and personally – I see the pricing as pretty soft with a number of pretty solid options available at sub $8k price tags. Let’s have a look at three of my favorite options on the board before expanding the list on the cheat sheet below for the 2022 Genesis Open!
Best of the Best (factoring in salary)
- Sungjae Im, $8,600
He’s too cheap. Im comes into this one playing outstanding, ranking 4th on tour in SG: TTG and 5th in SG: TOT. He has 5 top 11 finishes in his last seven events, and the only downside to him this week is the fact that I think he’ll be popular. I like his chances of being in the thick of things this weekend, and love the idea of getting significant exposure to him in builds for this weekend’s event.
- Cameron Tringale, $7,300
There’s some risk here as he has been rather boom/bust of late – but in terms of upside for his price point, Tringale is among the best in the field. He has the chops to string together four quality rounds and go low in quality field events, and I think the track at Riviera fits his game quite well. He’s mediocre off of the tee, but has done a good job in all other key facets of his game, and if you can withstand a bit of ‘cut risk’, I think he’s a great value option for your 5th or 6th golfer this weekend who does have top 10 upside in his range of potential outcomes.
- Corey Conners, $7,300
Much like with Tringale, Conners is a great high ceiling option to round out some rosters this weekend. He hasn’t been playing in peak form of late – but he is an elite ball striker who comes into this one ranked 9th on tour in SG: OTT and checks in with a top 25 showing in both SG: TTG and SG: TOT. I love the price point here, and I think that given his struggles in two of the past three events, I think he’ll check in on fewer rosters than I think he should be this week.

Our cheat sheets highlight the core plays (including some contrarian candidates) that we like the most on the slate and, as a result, would recommend a higher level of exposure to on the whole. It is not an exhaustive list, and if you are a multi-entry GPP player, you may decide to ultimately have a larger player pool to work from. Our hope is that this gives you a tight group of players to heavy-up your exposure to.
Best of luck in your contests this week and over the entirety of the 2022 PGA Season!!
