They’re going to throw a party in New York to celebrate
For years now, Derek ‘iDom’ Ruffin remained as one of, if not the top free agent in the fighting game community, but now that’s finally changed.
eSports organization XSET announced they have officially signed iDom to their team, nearly two years after his monumental Capcom Cup Victory.
Ruffin becomes XSET’s first fighting game player on the organization’s roster, which focused on titles like Valorant, Rocket League, Rainbow 6 Siege, Fortnite and Apex Legends up to this point.
iDom began to seriously compete in fighting games beginning in 2017 where he quickly caught the attention of the Street Fighter 5 scene after winning Defend the North and a Capcom Pro Tour online event that year.
It would take until 2019, however, for everyone to recognize him as one of the absolute best in the world following his surprise Capcom Cup win after coming into the event ranked 26th out of 32 players.
I can finally announced that I will be joining @XSET. Can’t wait to #ReptheSet 😁 https://t.co/QDTElmCnPZ

Just because iDom remained a free agent with a world title under his belt, doesn’t mean he didn’t receive any offers.
Ruffin was reportedly approached as early as 2017 by sponsors looking to sign him, but he always declined.
The player best known for his meta-warping Laura and Poison in SF5 instead opted to focus on his education.
Now that he’s freshly graduated though, iDom finally seems to be ready to take on the challenge of being a full-time fighting game professional.
XSET will be hosting a free VIP signing party in New York City, New York on November 9th for players and fans to help celebrate the deal.
