TOKYO — The quarterfinals of the Rocket League division of the All Japan High School esports Championship are set to be streamed live on Twitter and other platforms from 12:30 p.m. (3:30 a.m. UTC) on Oct. 9.
The eight teams that make it to the quarterfinals will battle it out for a spot in the semis, eying a place in the final slated for Dec. 25. The Rocket League (RL) preliminaries will precede the League of Legends and Fortnite divisions.
This year, 162 teams from 108 schools across Japan entered the competition to put their RL skills to the test. Beginning with the quarterfinals on Oct. 9, all matches will be broadcast on the championship’s official Twitch, YouTube and Twitter accounts.
Gaming tournament caster OooDa will serve as MC, while RL caster and gaming event organizer kokken will break down the matches play by play. Additionally, former pro and RL coach Wave will join as a commentator, and professional player and coach ValtaN will provide gameplay analysis. The event will be conducted in Japanese.
The start of the RL preliminaries on Sept. 25 kicked off the fourth All Japan High School esports Championship, organized by the Japan High School esports Federation and The Mainichi Newspapers Co. First held in 2018, the competition aims to promote a new esports culture in Japan, while fostering student growth through teamwork. The number of participants has grown each year, with roughly 1,500 students in 348 teams hailing from 194 schools nationwide competing in the third edition of the tournament.
This time, Fortnite was added to the championship lineup alongside Rocket League and League of Legends. The final day of the preliminaries for League of Legends will be streamed on Nov. 23, and Fortnite on Nov. 20 and 21. The tournament finals for Fortnite and League of Legends will be held on Dec. 19 and 26, respectively.
