Crystal Santiago waited on the ball before swatting a single to left field for the green team.
“She’s having a great night,” gray’s catcher Rena Campbell said.
Santiago had three hits and was the winning pitcher as green beat gray, 14-13. They played Sept. 13 on field 2 at Brahan Spring Park in the 55-and-over Rockets league in Huntsville Senior Softball.
“I feel very lucky,” Santiago said. “And I’m playing with a good bunch of guys. And I pray to the Lord every time I pitch or hit, and that everybody will be safe and that nobody will get hurt.”
She went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and one run scored for green (3-6). Ragnar Opiniano, the Redstone fire chief, also went 3-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs.
Mike Keyser had four hits with a double. Tom Fickling added three hits with a double while Robert Tolliver had two hits.
“It was just a good game all the way around,” green player/coach Jeff Abbott said. “We had timely hitting and good defense. It’s good the green finally got them another win.”
Gray (6-4) lost their third straight game since cruising atop the six-team league. But they have had to use substitute players because of missing regulars.
Mike Hoy had four hits but was the losing pitcher. Player/coach Sam Sepulveda, Ron Baer, William Kelly and Bennie Pokemire had three hits apiece. David Key and Dave McNeill added two hits apiece.
“Errors killed us,” Sepulveda said. “And our bats never got started. We went from scoring 20 runs in a game to only 13 today.”
