Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.

Today’s Picks

James: Willson Contreras – “I’m going to pick on Jax today, who is one of the softest SPs in the game right now. Not only does Jax allow a ton of hard contact, fly balls and home runs, but the Cubs are actually swinging it pretty well right now as a group. Specifically Contreras, who has been mashing in his last 11 games, with 3 HR and an ISO of .265 in that time. A 20% barrel rate and 96.1 mph EV average tell a pretty darn good story here, too. Against a struggling young SP with a fly ball bias, he’s my pick to click this evening and get me rolling again.”

Zach: Freddie Freeman –  “Freeman didn’t go deep for me yesterday but he did have a huge game with three hits including a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs. After last night’s game, Freeman has now hit safely in ten straight games for the Braves. In those ten games, Freeman is slugging .651 with an ISO of .256 and has six extra-base hits including two home runs. With Luke Weaver who is allowing left-handed hitters to slug .554 with a .353 wOBA and the bad Arizona bullpen on tap for tonight’s game I don’t see Freeman slowing down one bit.”

Jared: Ian Happ – “In case you haven’t been paying as close attention to the Cubs post-trade deadline (and who can blame you), Happ’s gone into full-fledged breakout mode. After a 74 wRC+ in the first half of the season, he’s turned around and posted a 135 wRC+ (nearly double) with a .893 OPS, .282 ISO and 14 HR in just 59 games. That’s a 7.2% HR/AB rate in that time as well, and 38.4 HR pace per 162 games. Pretty remarkable turnaround. Well, tonight the Cubs face Griffin Jax, who is one of the most HR-prone SPs in the game right now. Jax holds a 2.9 HR/9 in his last 5 starts, with a SIERA of 5.60 and 53% fly ball rate. For the switch-hitting Happ who continues to mash, I’m loving how this lines up. PS: Make sure Happ is on your “must draft list” for season long leagues in 2022.”
