Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Yordan Alvarez – “Humberto Castellanos has allowed three long balls over his last nine innings pitched and while he was riding four straight starts of one or less earned runs, he has now allowed eight earned over his last two. Ultimately, matchup aside, the Astros offense is the best in the biz and a matchup against a young pitcher is weighing in Houston’s favor. While Castellanos isn’t giving up a ton of long balls, lefties are slugging near .500 and Alvarez offers us one of the best raw power options from the left side.”
Zach: Bryce Harper – “Harper continues to rake as the Phillies make a push to the playoffs and Harper makes a push to MVP. In the month of September alone not including last night’s game, Harper is slashing .375/.492/.896 with an ISO of .521 and seven home runs. Tonight I don’t see Harper slowing down as he takes on Carlos Carrasco. Carrasco has not been his normal self since returning from injury and this season he has an HR/9 rate of 1.63 and has allowed all seven of his home runs at Citi Field where tonight’s game is being played.”
Jared: Luis Robert – “Spencer Howard has really struggled so far in 2021 against RHBs. The split differences are pretty crazy, with a .406 wOBA / .544 SLG against RHBs while keeping LHBs relatively at bay with a .287 wOBA and .338 SLG. Meanwhile, Robert’s been one of the best on the White Sox this year against RHP, sporting a .380 wOBA in the split. Granted the ISO has dropped a little against RHP (.161 overall this year) but he’s squaring up the ball better than anyone else on their roster right now (4 barrels in his last 12 games) to go along with a 203 wRC+ / .467 wOBA in that time. Let’s hope the stars align for him this evening in a very tasty matchup.”
