Core Plays

Ross Chastain – DK: $8,200 | FD: $9,800  – Starting 29th

We find ourselves at Daytona this weekend so if you aren’t familiar with how Daytona races go they are pretty unpredictable, highly variable, and the best strategy we can employ here is to “stack the back” and try to capitalize on place differential. This is also a race where you can leave salary on the table and you don’t need to use it all. That being said, without traditional qualifying, we are getting some higher dollar plays starting towards the back in Logano and Dillon who should be able to fill out salary on rosters. Though, that fact will also likely make them higher owned. Denny Hamlin is my outright favorite to win this race, as he has four top-five finishes in his last five races here. However, with him starting third he offers us more scare than safety. Ross Chastain on the surface is a risky play here too as he hasn’t been in the best recent form, but with him starting 29th he does carry 40-1 odds to win this race which are the best odds for someone starting this far back in the field. Early in the year at Daytona Chastain started 34th and finished seventh. I want to reiterate the fact that there really is no “core” play at Dayton – we are really just preparing for the usual chaos of this race. I would spread exposure out widely this weekend and not be afraid of a weird setup. Remember, Michael McDowell won the Daytona 500.

Justin Haley – DK: $5,500 | FD: $2,500 – Starting 28th

As mentioned with Chastain, there really isn’t a “core” this weekend, just a group of guys who have a little higher ceiling than the other. Haley fits the bill of “stack the back” and we also get him with some prior positive results here. Back in 2019 Haley won a rain-shortened race here and then in 2020, he finished 13th after starting 33rd. Haley didn’t have a great showing at Michigan this past weekend, but he did have a good showing at Indy the week prior with an 8th and 3rd place finish in Xfinity and Cup. We don’t even need Haley to be good in this race, we just need him to be safe.
