James: Kyle Seager – “Mike Foltynewicz day everybody! I am not sure how far I want to stretch the sample to make him look bad, but we can just stick with his last four starts. Over Folty’s last four starts, he has managed a total of 18 innings, in which he has allowed 22 earned runs and 12 home runs. Yup, 12 homers over his last 18 innings, 20 homers over his last ten games, and 31 homers total on the year. Anything but a bat against this guy right now would be an injustice to this article. Both sides of the plate have tagged him pretty well, 16 to righties and 15 to lefties, but lefties are slugging at .612 compared to the .549 mark of righties. While the slugging percentage as a whole isn’t super high for Seager, he has hit 14 of his 22 homers against RHP and over his last seven days has a slugging percentage of .864. I will ride the hot bat here in one of the best on-paper matchups we can draw.”
Zach: Robbie Grossman – “Grossman is not a name you normally associate with home runs but I really like him to go deep to start the month. I like Grossman to go deep to start the month for several reasons starting with the way he is hitting the ball. Grossman has had four home runs since the break and has an ISO of .236 in that time. Grossman’s average launch angle of 25.6-degrees since the break is also a number that jumps out at me as that is the launch angle most home runs are hit at. Another reason why I like Grossman to go deep is his match-up against Spenser Watkins. Watkins had an HR/9 rate close to two in his 100 or so career innings in Triple-A and has allowed a home run in two of his past three starts this season.”
Jared: Javier Baez – “Vladimir Gutierrez is really struggling to keep the ball in the park this season. Gutierrez comes into today’s matchup with an HR/9 rate of 1.78 and has allowed four home runs in his past two starts. While Gutierrez is struggling Baez is not. Baez hit a home run in his Met debut and now has hits in three straight games. I also like Baez overall numbers this season against right-handed pitching as he has an ISO of .217 against them.”
