Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Mark Canha – “Chris Paddack has been a bit of a squeaky wheel recently, managing just 14 combined innings over his last four starts. While his last start out was arguably one of his best in recent memory, he is still allowing a ton of contact and has allowed three home runs over his last 14 innings. While Matt Olson felt like the right call here, Paddack is actually allowing a .321 batting average to right-handed hitters and a slugging of .542. In comparison, lefties are hitting just .222 and slugging just .367. Canha himself is seeing righties better on the year, hitting and slugging them about .30 points higher than lefties. Paddack ranks in the bottom third of the league in Exit Velo, HardHit%, Barrel%, and K% and just isn’t the pitcher he was the last two years, in fact, Paddack carries a negative WAR of -1.2 right now.”
Zach: Bryce Harper – “There are a lot of players that I could write up on this 15 game slate but I am going with my favorite player in Harper. Harper has his usual excellent numbers this season especially on the Statcast side of things. This season Harper has an average exit velocity of 91.5 miles per hour, an average launch angle of 12.3-degrees, and a barrel rate of 16.4%. What really separates Harper for me from some of the other great hitters on this slate is his match-up with Erick Fedde. Fedde is an average at best pitcher that Harper has owned throughout his career with four home runs in just 15 at-bats.”
Jared: Vladimir Guerrero Jr – “One day later, I’m sticking with Vladdy Jr. I’ve learned my lesson for pivoting away from guys that I like too quickly, so let’s keep the good times rolling. He has a ton of success in the BvP department against Garrett Richards in his career, with a .804 wOBA and 4 extra base hits in 9 AB with 1 HR. Vladdy continues to obliterate opposing RHP, with a 203 wRC+, .375 ISO and elite .723 SLG in the split this year. He can easily go back to work against the Boston RHP who struggles mightily against Vladdy et al.”
