The MLB DFS Dinger of the Day – July 17, 2021 (7/17/21) – FantasyCruncher.com DFS Articles & Insights – fantasycruncher.com

Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.

Today’s Picks

James: Wil Myers – “Allowing home runs has been an issue for Patrick Corbin all year – 18 in total – but he has been stung a lot recently as well with six allowed over his last four starts spanning around 22 innings. Wil Myers hasn’t actually had a great year against LHP, but also holds a pretty small sample as well compared to his career .250 average against LHP. Myers does see Corbin pretty well though, with ten hits in 31 career at-bats. While only one of those has left the yard, he holds a .550 slugging against Corbin. While I focus on seasonal stats heavily in game-to-game scenarios, this is overall just a great matchup for all right-handed bats, regardless of what they have been producing vs LHP on the year. Corbin is allowing a .284 batting average and .495 slugging against RHB and 16 of the 18 homers Corbin has allowed have come to righties. Machado and Tatis are just as good of a pick here – but I feel like going contrarian a bit here.

Zach: Andrew Benintendi – “Benintendi is not a name you are going to see often in this article. In fact, you may never see him in this article again. With that being said I really like how things shape up for Benintendi tonight. Benintendi is hitting the ball since coming back from injury. In those seven games, Benintendi has an ISO of .276 and is slugging .517 with four extra-base hits including two home runs. Whoever the Orioles trot out on the mound tonight is also likely to be a positive match-up for Benintendi as outside of John Means who is currently in Triple-A on a rehab assignment the Orioles don’t have a good pitcher on their roster.”

Jared: Peter Alonso – “I’m a tad concerned about the weather in this one, but assuming it goes off without a hitch, Alonso is lurking as an elite target. Wil Crowe has allowed more than 1 HR per start in his last month, with a 5.39 SIERA, very low 25.5% CSW% and near 10% barrel rate in that time. He’s been a reverse split pitcher this year, allowing 9 of 12 HR to RHBs and allowing them to rock a .412 wOBA with a .580 SLG in 145 PA. For his career, Alonso has a .371 wOBA vs RHP with a .282 ISO in the split with 70% of his HRs coming in this situation. As long as this game gets in, I’m loving the outlook for the Mets’ stud 1B. If NYM/PIT is washed out, my pivot is Manny Machado.”
