Just to always keep us on our toes we had another massive upset with Rogue Warriors beating Rare Atom yesterday and also Ultra Prime taking a game from Team WE.
We aren’t given many layups today as our three LPL matchups all feature teams in the top half of the league. We kick off with LNG against OMG, a matchup against a team who started 7-0 and is now sliding in LNG, and an OMG team with a 6-4 record that I don’t think many would have predicted. LNG is on a three-game slide now, sitting at 7-3 and their losses have come to Rare Atom, Ultra Prime, and Team WE – two of these losses were in three games. This doesn’t fully discourage me from rostering LNG right now, but I am a big believer in current form and while LNG still has four starters in the top-20 in KDA, they are slipping a little bit. The problem with OMG though is their only real statement wins were against RNG when they were struggling and then a three-game win over Team WE. We get a massive OMG discount here, and while LNG is still the better team, they aren’t really playing like it recently. With a slew of recent upsets in the LPL, taking the value on OMG here as a 6-4 team priced like a 4-6 doesn’t seem too bad.
JDG and Suning and RNG and EDG are the other two matches here and really I think making teams from these six LPL teams may be the way to go. JDG is only a -125 favorite over Suning, but I do like the JDG side here. JDG is on a four-match winning streak and on paper hold advantages here on top lane and in the jungle. Loken remains one of the leagues best carries with a four kills per game average and a 5.55 KDA. Kanavi sits fourth in the league for kills per game at 4.63, while Loken and Yagao aren’t too far behind. Suning has been a very inconsistent team, with wins against strong opponents and losses against weak ones. Historically though they are a team who feeds on the lower half of the division. Angel and huanfeng are their path to victories, though I prefer the Mid/Bot lane of JDG here.
EDG vs RNG should be a great match to really set in stone how the rest of this split is going to go. EDG is 10-1 and 20-3 inside their games which makes them an absolute elite tier force right now. RNG is the Spring Split champions and also MSI champs, but started Summer off slow at 1-5, before winning their last three matches to put them at 4-5. RNG despite the losing record, does hold a winning record inside their games at 12-10. Despite the 3-0 and 6-0 in their last three matches, it hasn’t been against the elites, as a win over LGD is the toughest opponent faced here. Jiejie, Viper, Scout, and Meiko rank first, second, fourth, and sixth in the LPL for KDA, while Viper is second with 4.91 kills per game. The slaying potential here is great and we should get a good amount of engagements, as EDG builds their gold lead through fights and objectives, and rank a little lower on the CS/M standings. RNG make for an interesting tournament dart here because a win could change the entire narrative of their season, but with just three game losses in 23 total games, EDG has proven themselves as smart money.
The LCK isn’t too exciting tonight and with a few value LPL options I am not going to really focus on them much. Fredit Brion take on DRX here in a matchup of some bottom teams and Nongshim takes on KT. Fredit is a -160 favorite here and while DRX has looked better with their three new starters, BRO is still the better team here. But as mentioned, BRO all year has defeated teams above them, but lost to the bottom tier – we can consider this a fluke and annoyance, but a DRX win here would certainly follow the formula. BRO won’t cost us much here, which keeps them easily in play here. KT and Nongshim matchup with KT actually winning this match 2-1 when they met all the way back in week one. Since then though, Nongshim has cemented themselves as a top-three team in the LCK. Base all NS stacks around Peanut and while KT has shown flashes of being a better team than their record shows, they also have not been able to close games and is coming off of one of their worst matches of the year in a sweep against T1.
